Representatives from the City of Reno and the Reno Police Department stopped by Aspen Lodge on Wednesday, July 11, to introduce a new mobile radar message board that comes with a warning for area motorists: “slow down!”

The sign will initially sit along Del Webb Parkway West and will move to a new location in Somersett about once a week.

The sign collects data on speed and number of vehicles, allowing the RPD to deploy its limited resources where most needed. It can also be utilized to push out messages spanning emergency communications to special events information.

Ward 5 City Council member Neoma Jardon said that the installation of the sign was a direct response to requests from residents who reached out to the city complaining of speeders in the community. Neoma said that she wants motorists to get the message that “This isn’t a freeway. It’s a neighborhood.”
